R.I.P. ROWLAND S. HOWARD

A true genius of guitar passed away this morning. Rowland S. Howard was most well-known as the guitarist in the Birthday Party but also was a member of Crime And The City Solution and a collaborator with Lydia Lunch, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Nikki Sudden etc. He was a huge influence on Charles' guitar playing and definitely contributed far more than he's credited for to the canon of creative guitar playing. NYE 2010

Jeez - 2010! This decade went by sooooo fast. Oh well, ring in the next decade with Crocodiles and Art Fag Recordings impresario Mario Orduno. Most of the crap in San Diego costs $20-$50 and you'll be subjected to techno and drunk bros who'll want to fight you. Ours is a measly $5 and the only things you'll be subjected to are the hits of yesteryear.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, BABY (PLEASE DON'T DIE)

Photobucket

We wrote and recorded a jingle-jam with Dum Dum Girls last night called "Merry Christmas, Baby (Please Don't Die)". Go here to listen or visit either band's myspace.

Oh, and a HUGE thank-you to Jon Greene for recording this for us. That guy has been more than generous with his time and equipment. Any of you in San Diego who know him or ever see him, give him a french kiss under the mistletoe this year!

We've had to cancel our Australian shows due to a family emergency. We apologize and will be back as soon as possible to make up the dates.

Here's some more photos from the past few months...

And we still have a shit load more to put up. We'll try to get to those soon. There are some pretty funny ones. We even have a photo of a confrontation between a current Roman and a Roman from 2000 years ago. Soon...

One of the Great Lakes. After this we ate Thai food in a college cafeteria and then played in a mock Bavarian beer hall to a small crowd.

I don't remember why but for some reason Charles and I were both in awful moods this night. We hotboxed the van and sat in there sulking listening to sad Bo Diddley ballads. Marco saw us being a couple of sad-sacks and came into the van with a coffee and a funny hat and spoke in a funny voice and cheered us up. The best thing about Marco is his positivity. You can always count on him to be fun and in a good mood. The second best thing about him is how handsome he is, which definitely helped attendance at the shows.

Marco is embarassed about his toe-nails and wouldn't let me take a picture of them. I denied his request to put my camera away while his socks were off, so he spent most of the night shielding his feet with his hands. I have no room to laugh really, as my toenails are about 17 times more disgusting than Marco's.

After the Horrors/Crocs gig in San Diego, we had a party at my house. And by house, I mean studio apartment. We crammed about 20 people into the one little room I live in. And since we're scared of our neighbors complaining about noise, we let everyone smoke cigarettes in the house. I didn't notice the stench this created until the next day, when I left and came home to the realization that my house now smelt like someone had been smoking cigars through their asshole with all the windows closed.

READING RAINBOW "RESTLESS" 7" AVAILABLE NOW ON ZOO MUSIC

Photobucket

The long awaited 7" from Philadelphia's Reading Rainbow is available now from my label, ZOO MUSIC! Trust me when I say that this record is perfect. The title track, "Restless", is one of the tracks of the year. Do the words "Chainsaw Amphetamine Beach Boys" mean anything to you? They will after you hear Restless. Plus there is an absolutely gorgeous Velvet Underground cover on the b-side. This record will go fast - order yours now at www.killzoomusic.com before they are gone.

WE'LL POST MORE PHOTOS LATER

Here are 3 photos from the last few months of touring. We have about 5000 other, better ones but here is a few anyway.

So this is where the smell in the van was coming from...

Or is that mouth-hole where the smell in the van was coming from?

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CAME TO THE CHE THE OTHER NIGHT

The show at the Che on Friday was a blast - a perfect night, in our opinion. Every band absolutely killed it. We were honored to share the stage with 3 of the best bands California is offering at the moment. Was it too "scene" (haha) as one local publication was worried it would be? Not to us, but we'll see what the internet dorks have to say. Anyway, here is some footage of Dum Dum Girls and us for those of you who couldn't make it. I tried to find footage from the other bands' sets but it's either non existant or too dark.

ZOO MUSIC

Zoo Music is me and Dee Dee Dum Dum's label. We have a bunch of cool shit lined up for the coming months. Available this week is a 12" EP, the Minus Touch, from Austin Texas' Woven Bones. Sign up for our mailing list and you'll be the first to get a head's up on new releases. We aren't going to be doing pre order's or anything, so once we have the records, we'll be letting mailing list fools know first. Write us at zoomusicgirls@gmail.com to get on said list.

Next up is a 7" from Reading Rainbow. We should have that in a few weeks. Expect releases from Beaters, Ancient Crux, and Mayfair Set in the near future.

But I'll have it back soon, and I'll post a buncha shit after that. In the meantime, here are a few interviews you can check out if so inclined:
