WE HAVE SIGNAL

Here is something that was filmed for PBS in Alabama a few months ago, when we were on tour with Fresh & Onlys in the spring. This was a weird day in some ways. Bottletree is probably our favorite club in America, possibly the world and F&O's and us were having a blast but the tour, particularly as we got more southern, seemed plagued by nasty weather. We ended up in Birmingham the day after a tornado decimated Tuscaloosa, just a town or two away. Needless to say, the mood was a bit morose but big ups to Bottletree for keeping their doors open and trying to provide the community with something fun to take their minds away from the destruction. Peep Tim Cohen playing guitar and singing on I Wanna Kill and Shayde singing on the Ramones cover.

MIX// August & September 2011

During these years of constant traveling my one closest companion (besides a moleskine) has been my monthly ipod mixes. They are comprised of some of my favorite songs and newly discovered gems that have fallen into my ears along the way. Each mix has been listened to a zillion times and for me marks exactly where I was and what I was doing at the time, for instance I remember doing a radio interview pool side in Bologna Italy at our hotel when the Pistol's Silly Thing came blasting out of the cafe. Fun times.

August and September have been spent rehearsing and recording our third album here in Berlin. The album is nearly done and our entire band is buzzing from the results. I made these mixes for the long walks around Prenzlauer Berg and Kreuzberg when we were creating the energy and mystique that would eventually flow through our newest recordings. I will miss Berlin deeply.

August-

"Winner's Blues" by Sonic Youth
"God Bless Whoever Sent You" by Hopeton Lewis

OBSOLETE

I forgot about this goddamn fucking song. So good. Reminds me of being in my late teens/early twenties. I hated the grind of community college in the morning and then an hour commute to an 8 hour job after that.

WELCOME TO HELL

I literally used to watch this everyday before and after school. Ed Templeton's part in Welcome To Hell was my guiding light as a pre-teen. This was my reason for existence, at least until skateboarding became overrun with raw jocks and alienated me. That's when the Sex Pistols gave me a new reason for living. This video was also the first time I ever heard Sonic Youth. Fun facts.

IS ROY WOOD THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST?

I don't know if Roy Wood is still alive
but for a screaming beard of weirdness
so still alive for me
O Sultan of trash
whole crucifixes do the twist
in your light

A FEW PHOTOS FROM THE LAST FEW MONTHS

1) This is right before we painted our epic masterpiece "The Last Supper Part 2".

2) Day off with the now-traditional "Cook Out at the Cook's". La familia Cook always takes great care of us! Also, Andy is thinking about having a "nasty mastie".

3) Marco has always been a great handler of pussy.

4) Robin confronting the best advice she's ever gotten.

5) Robin, Anna, Bambi and Jules palling around in Calgary. DDGs are our besties.

ACOUSTIC SESSION//DIJON FRANCE

Here are two songs we recorded acoustic in Dijon, France. One of them is an as of yet unrecorded song from our next album and the other is a Daniel Johnston cover. Did you know Dijon is the capitol of mustard in France? We found out the hard way. We had to lick it off our faces like a couple of dogs. :(

MONTREAUX JAZZ FESTIVAL

We accomplished a dream of ours and played Montreaux Jazz Festival last week. Who would of thought that when me and Chazzy were kids dressing up like Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Cecil Taylor and slapping each other with detuned rubber saxophones that we'd actually be playing THE fest one day?? Here's some cool footage courtesy of the fest - 2 songs and some interview crap. Thanks again Montreaux, we had a blast!!!!

DOES IT GET ANY MORE INTENSE THAN THIS?

Yes, the Saints are one of the best bands of all time, and yes, the version of "This Perfect Day" that opens this set melts eyeballs.

Imitations Of Drowning

Fear
of drowning,
fear of being that alone,
kept me busy making a deal
as if I could buy
my way out of it
and it worked for two years
and all of July.

This August I began to dream of drowning. The dying
went on and on in water as white and clear
as the gin I drink each day at half-past five.
Going down for the last time, the last breath lying,
I grapple with eels like ropes - it's ether, it's queer
and then, at last, it's done. Now the scavengers arrive,
the hard crawlers who come to clean up the ocean floor.
And death, that old butcher, will bother me no more.

I
had never
had this dream before
except twice when my parents
clung to rafts
and sat together for death,
frozen
like lewd photographs.

Who listens to dreams? Only symbols for something -
like money for the analyst or your mother's wig,
the arm I almost lost in the washroom wringer,
following fear to its core, tugging the old string.
But real drowning is for someone else. It's too big
to put in your mouth on purpose, it puts hot stingers
in your tongue and vomit in your nose as your lungs break.
Tossed like a wet dog by that juggler, you die awake.

Fear,
a motor,
pumps me around and around
until I fade slowly
and the crowd laughs.
I fade out, an old bicycle rider
whose odds are measured
in actuary graphs.

This weekend the papers were black with the new highway
fatalities and in Boston the strangler found another victim
and we were all in Truro drinking beer and writing checks.
The others rode the surf, commanding rafts like sleighs.
I swam - but the tide came in like ten thousand orgasms.
I swam - but the waves were higher than horses' necks.
I was shut up in that closet, until, biting the door,
they dragged me out, dribbling urine on the gritty shore.

Breathe!
And you'll know . . .
an ant in a pot of chocolate,
it boils
and surrounds you.
There is no news in fear
but in the end it's fear
that drowns you.

THE TALE OF A FAIRY

Sorry it's been so long since we've posted on this muh'fucker. We've been on vacation, cut us some slack. Soooooooooooo. Here's a short film our buddy Karl Lagerfeld made for Chanel and he put one of our tracks in it. He wanted us to actually be in the film but he was worried we would make the male models feel bad about their looks, so he changed his mind.

FULL SHOW IN KOLN, DEUTSCHLAND

Here is footage of a full show we did in Koln, Germany. Rockpalast (who we did a brief acoustic set for - see an earlier post below) filmed this and luckily took the sound off the mixing board, as the PA cut out for a huge portion of the set. Sound was fine in our monitors and we had no idea haha. Try and guess the portion where there is no sound coming from the PA. My guess is it's the part where the audience has the blankest looks on their faces and appear to be in a church rather than a gig. Check it out HERE.
